Balancing Compliance and Innovation in Dutch Financial Institutions under the EU AI Act
This research, titled “Balancing Compliance and Innovation in Dutch Financial Institutions under the EU AI Act,” explores how Dutch financial institutions are preparing for this new regulatory era. Drawing on interviews with experts from finance, regulation, and consultancy, it analyses how the AI Act shapes organisational choices on AI adoption, design, and implementation.
The findings show that regulation can act not only as a constraint but also as a driver of responsible innovation. By integrating compliance into their innovation strategies, Dutch financial institutions are setting a benchmark for the future of responsible and transparent AI in Europe.
This research was conducted as part of a Master’s in Artificial Intelligence & Governance at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam.
